Problem

Mistracking of conveyor belt

One of the largest single ferrochrome producers in the Western world faced significant challenges due to mistracking of a 25-metre-long, 1200 mm-wide conveyor belt. Belt edge damage resulted from the conveyor belt running off the centreline and travelling along a rough path, where constant friction gradually wore down the belt. This type of damage typically develops over time and may not show visible signs immediately. Mistracking caused structural damage and spillage issues, further posing risks to equipment integrity, productivity, and safety. These conditions led to potential downtime and increased maintenance costs. The company needed to correct the issue promptly to prevent further damage and minimise fugitive material.

Solution

Martin®Tracker™ installed on the carrying side of 1200
mm wide conveyor belt

Martin’s Sales Engineer conducted a thorough audit of the conveyor system to identify and address the root cause before implementing corrective actions. A comprehensive Walk the Belt™ conveyor audit was performed, and the installation of a 1200 mm Martin®Tracker™ on the carrying side of the affected conveyor belt was recommended. This product was selected for its proven ability to correct mistracking efficiently, ensuring smooth belt alignment without requiring major structural changes. The Martin®Tracker™ features sensing rollers and lever arms on both sides of the unit. A stainless-steel paddle wheel is used to detect the direction of belt travel and activate the sensing rollers at the appropriate end of the unit.
